On our 15 acre homestead, we have 2 acres dedicated to raising animals, vegetables (and miracles! – if you haven’t read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver, it is a recommended read from us).
We have a variety of chickens, both for eggs and meat. We also raise KuneKune pigs, we currently have 4 (1 Boar, 1 Sow and 2 Barrows). We also have a garden, miniature grape vineyard, and miniature orchard.
We are trying our best to learn this time honored tradition (and life skill) called farming, but we are by no means experts. The purpose of this blog is to merely share our journey and hopefully encourage a few to join us in your own way.
11 years ago we began to dream of having land, learning how to farm, and living a more simple life. We knew that living the “simple” life required a lot of work, but we weren’t afraid of hard work. Working with our hands is something that gives us life. 5 years ago, we still lived in the city but decided we couldn’t wait any longer. We had a small garden, mostly of tomatoes, and we adopted two backyard hens. Our backyard has grown a lot since then, as have our animals, and our skills.
