Dan and I seem to find ourselves in the middle of many things.
We are moderately many things. Though some people might consider us “off the grid” we are far from it… We have land, we try to garden, we try to raise animals, but at the end of the day we live in a plush log home, with comfy furniture and netflix.
Some people have referred to me as “crunchy”, and though I cloth diapered my first two, by the time I had my third child I was purely in survival mode. Zoe wore a cloth diaper one day of her life, and I also have bought her more of those (very convenient!) squeeze pouches of food than I care to admit.
Another way that we seem to confuse people is our involvement with essential oils. Some see our involvement as a juxtaposition with Dan’s medical career, and this comes from both sides (those both pro-all natural, and those who are pro-modern medicine). So, pardon me, as I take a few minutes to clear the air a bit.
First, we believe in a balance of all things. For the most part, and for the majority of things, we don’t believe in extremes. We are open minded, and especially when it comes to making decisions which involve our family’s health and wellness, we want to look at all of the options, science and facts and weigh what is in our best interest.
I could obviously address a great many issues in regards to this whole “balance idea”, but for today, I specifically want to talk about our involvement with doTERRA and seeking natural wellness via essential oils while also utilizing and valuing modern medicine and science. To us, these two things absolutely go together and there is no reason for them to be in conflict with each other.
It is true that Dan’s background in medicine gives him a scientific background and a desire for evidence based practice. This is true not only for his medical profession as an Emergency Physician, but also as a father and wellness provider at home. But, guess what? Did you know, there is actually a surprising amount of scientific evidence FOR the use of essential oils? Did I blow your mind?
Dan has spent a portion of the last five years digging into what evidence and information is out there about essential oils, as we continued to use them in our home for our family’s health and wellness. As we continue to receive questions about WHY use essential oils, HOW to use essential oils and HOW essential oils work with our bodies, it has become increasingly obvious to us that better access to resources is needed. It is also clear that most people would like the science broken down into easy to understand morsels. I know that is true for myself.
Because of this, we (mostly Dan is heading up this front) have decided to release podcasts and webinars, specifically to educate you on essential oils and other doTERRA products. We (again, mostly Dan) will be discussing HOW the products interact with your body, what the mechanism of actions are and what results you may expect to see based on the science and evidence that is available.
The heart behind these educational podcast (and soon to come webinars) is not to make claims, give dosage recommendations or even promote the use of essential oils. Instead, the basis of this (very new) podcast is to present the evidence (in it’s entirety), so that you can understand and decide for yourself if you think essential oils would be of benefit to you and what safety guidelines you may need to consider.
We began with Eucalyptus Essential Oils, because it seems to be one of the most controversial oils (at least currently), so why not jump right in.
We are still working on the format and best way to present and publish it, but for those of you who have been patiently waiting… here it is:
Can I warn you, this one is LOOONG! (Like almost 3 hours long) We are working on cutting it down, but it’s difficult when you have so much science to share 🙂
